Artist such as Outkast, Ludacris, T.I, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Joc, and Dro. The Whole Swisher house, new 36 (36 mafia), MIA squad, etc, have been putting out albums non-stop. The south got so big, that anyone, wit’ a sagh-then Drawl, could be signed. You can even chalk up STL’s lil’ stint, as a piece of, everyones obsession with southern hip-hop/rap.
Now here is where history will, kinda, repeat itself, from a hip-hop/rap prospective. First, I have to once again remind the readers that this is through the eyes of mainstream networks. Now, because I am from the East Coast, I have to say Jay, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Dip Set, Terror Squad, Lox (D-Lock) and 50 (his first album is a classic), have put out solid albums. Also, if you like hip-hop, Mos Def and Kweli did their thing too.
However, with Game and Snoop recently launching very solid albums, that had nothing but West Coast talent, excluding Timbo, J Blaze, and other producers on the beats, the West Coast maaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy be back.
O yea, I almost forgot, here is what I mean by history, kinda, repeating itself. Everyone knows that Hip-Hop/Rap started in New York, the East Coast.
However, being that this should be looked at from “mainstream” point of view, one must assume, in order to have history repeat itself, that the beginning of hip-hop/rap was the East Coast/West Coast battle for greatness. That is the beginning of hip-Hop/Rap, from Hollywood’s perspective, this is when everyone became interested and Hip-Hop/Rap became what it is today.
Now, there are some scheduled releases from other West Coast artists in the next few months of 2007. COULD, this be time for the West Coast to step back into power? Or will the East Coast get their act together? Has da Sa-owl-ff awakened a sleeping giant?
